Our Story

In the New Testament Gospel of John, Chapter 10, Jesus Christ describes Himself as follows:

Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who have come before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through Me will be saved.  They will come in and go out, and find pasture.  I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

We at Shepherd’s Gate are thankful to be counted among those “sheep”.  We are a non-denominational Bible Church dedicated to glorifying God through study in His infallible Word, community and reaching out to others with the love of Jesus Christ.

In the summer of 2013, our core group began gathering in parks once a month potlucks and prayer, fellowship and fun. As the cooler days and likely rains of autumn approached, Grace Bible Fellowship in Northeast Portland graciously agreed to share their building with us on Sunday afternoons.  We knew that God had a purpose in mind for us.  Through prayer and His guidance, we began a search for a new building where we could have Sunday morning services and other activities and events throughout the week.  When a location became vacant on SE 122nd and Stark, we saw it as an open door to move into our own space.  After months of cleaning, renovating and remodeling, we had our first Sunday service on March 22, 2015 in the Hazelwood Community, serving our neighbors by sharing the love of Jesus.   We enjoyed our 5 years at this location, but decided not to renew the lease in the fall of 2019.

God provided a beautiful new location at Rivercrest Community Church – 3201 NE 148th.  We are currently meeting on Sunday evenings at 5:30 pm.  We’re thankful to have excellent teaching, worship and sharing time at our services and are looking forward to what God has in store for us here!

We warmly welcome you to join us and “find pasture”, as we follow the Good Shepherd. And, yes, we still enjoy times of fun and fellowship as our monthly potlucks!
